After a long flight: a first-day hammam and massage plan

You have checked in after hours in the air. How should you order a hammam and massage, and at what time of day, to keep the first day easy?

Keep the first day light

After a long flight your body has spent hours in one position and your sleep is out of step. Instead of a packed sightseeing day, a short walk followed by a calm spa session helps you start the city feeling more rested.

Hammam first, massage after

The order matters. Time on the warm marble and the kese scrub prepare the body for massage, and leaving the massage until last lets you finish with the quietest part of the session. At Lilyum, the Traditional Turkish Bath & Massage Ritual combines the hammam and a massage in this order in a single booking.

Which time should you choose?

The afternoon, after you have checked in and eaten something light, works well. A late evening session suits guests who want to go straight to sleep afterwards. Rather than coming straight from the airport, hungry or very tired, leave a short rest in between.

Water and rest

An aircraft cabin is a dry environment, so drink plenty of water before and after the hammam. Take your time over the hot drink served in the relaxation area. If you feel weak or light-headed, tell your therapist and the pace of the session will be adjusted.

A convenient spot in Şişhane

Lilyum Spa & Wellness is inside the Aspera Golden Horn Hotel in Şişhane, within walking distance of the Şişhane metro and Galata. The hammam is reserved only for you or your group during the session, so we recommend booking as soon as your arrival date is fixed.
